Broken Mothercare Pushchair (after 2 months)

I bought a Mothercare own brand stroller at the end of August and by October the footrest has broken (during totally normal use). I took it back to Mothercare. I was told that the footrest was not covered by the guarantee and that there was nothing that they could do. The assistant told me that it was because we had mistreated the footrest and that's why it had broken - she said it wouldn't be classed as a manufacturing fault. I perservered and argued that I had only used the stroller appropriately, had only had it for less than 2 months and that I wasn't claiming on the guarantee but the sale of goods act.
Eventually the manager agreed to send the stroller away to the manufacturer to see if they would agree to repair it (after scrutinising the MSE mini guide). What are my rights in this situation - were the store right to see if the manufacturer will repair it?

When you printed that mini guide you may have seen this in that Consumer Rights Mini-Guide article...Within six months: The shop must prove the item wasn't faulty when the transaction took place. After that period you must prove it was.
They have a right to consult 'an expert', e.g. the manufacturer, to help them make that decision.0 -
Given the pushchair is pretty new I would be asking for the loan of another while it's away. You don't know how long they are likely to have it for.0

Has your child been using the footrest to stand on to climb into the pushchair ? This is what they meant by " mistreated" and why they tend not to be covered by warranties0
