short v long tax return?

Hello all,
I have filled in the short tax return for my daughter's small business - sole trader- for the last 5 years.
This year with moving house among other events, we have mislaid the short return. HMRC have advised they are sending a long tax return in replacement.
So I have 2 questions I hope someone may be able to help with:
1) Is the long return a lot more complex?
2) Would it be better to bite the bullet and register online now so that we have longer to submit (but are comitted to this in future) and is there still time?
Thanks for any replies

Why haven't you registered online? AFAIK, even if you register now it won't be active until next years.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0

Hi,
Do you mean it is now too late to register for online tax submission for the tax year 20010/11 ?
The paper return is due in by 31/10/11 but the online return is due by end of Jan 2012 I think.

Yes, but speak to HMRC on Monday and they will give you the information you need.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0

Hi,
They wont speak to me, but my daughter rang them when we gave up the search for the short tax return they sent earlier in the year and as in my first post they said they would send the long return only.
I was asking if anyone knew whether this longer one is a lot more complex to complete and if it would be better done online?0 -
Hi,
Still hopeful for advice!
Getting panicky now!! Don't want a fine
Daughter rang them on Monday and they advised to register for online but failed to mention it might be too late for this year as Steve1980 says.
So she went online and immediately registered but it says the activation code will come within 7 days- so by next Monday.
Can't find anything refering to deadlines for registering (as opposed to filing) on HMRC website or Business Link.
We have filled in the short return for the last 6 years.
Has anyone any idea as to the cut off date for registering!0
