Is there a register for plumbers like Gas Safe?

My shower has just packed in and I need to find a plumber quickly who can either fix it or fit a new one. How can I find someone well-qualified who does good work rather than some cowboy? Is there a register?

Not in the same sense as GSR, because anyone can call themselves a 'plumber' and do plumbing work.

Good evening: try here. As Macman says, anyone can call themselves a plumber.

The trouble is that anyone can set up a so-called "trade body" or whatever, which is a "shelter" for the guys you refer to :D
How about the Central Register of Approved Plumbers ? you and I could be the founder members :rotfl:

(NOT that I am implying that CIPHE is anything other than a totally reputable organisation !!)

The number of texts, emails and post the OH gets these days from 'organisations' purporting to be the greatest thing since the last greatest thing is mindboggling...all designed to take your cash for sfa. Imo..time for plumbing to become a regulated profession but that day will never come in this country.... the time served will continue to get lumped in with the bodger brigade/quick coursers etc.

P.S. Thanks for sharing the opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the C.R.A.P. but will have to pass just this once.:D

OP: let us know how you get on.
