Immersion heater question?

Its all based on the premise from the O/P that nothing has changed and his water is not as hot.
I've disagreed throughout this thread. It has substantially changed, the difference is, in fact the only difference is, the cylinder was changed. If you get two or three similar E7 standard cylinders they will have only slightly different thermal performance between manufacturers. If however you compare an E7 and a non E7 there may be a considerable difference in thermal performance.
The bottom line is the plumber works for a ' rent for profit ' landlord £150- for a single port non E7 standard non part L ~ and ~ £250+ for a dual port E7 standard part L, which one do you think the plumber put in ? - bet its the one that was £100 quid cheaper
NOTE TO : grahamc2003, no my friend I'm not offended by your opinion that my """ posts quite confusing as they frequently introduce irrelevant things """ and that you """ cant understand why the element at the top of a dustbin would cause the water to boil while one at the bottom wouldn't ! """ - I didn't say that my friend I said that they would both cause the water at the top to boil but :
- element in the bottom and you will get a dustbin full of boiling water
- element in the top and you will get a 1/4 dustbin full of angry bubbling boiling water if you are lucky
- more confusion pictures now to indicate convection.
Liquid, such as water, is heated from the bottom, the layer of water closer to the heat source expands and hence becomes less dense compared to the water layer above it. Expanded water is less dense than the surrounding water and therefore it rises. The cooler regions of the water in the upper part of the flask, being denser, sink. This movement of liquid due to a difference in density sets up a convection current.
So the heated [ hot ] water pushes up and forces the cooler water down over the thermostat which in turn is heated until the whole volume of the tank reaches your pre determined setting then the stat switches the leccy off. Its a bit atomic science and the random motion of atoms and all that, but sufficient to say that's why the top down element is rubbish at heating a full tank of water
Hope this helps my friend.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Good grief. What petty point are you trying to make instead of trying to help the OP?
.
Petty points are denoted by using this :rotfl: E.G.:rotfl:The OP has correctly worked out that apart from the fridge/freezer not much else need be consuming ovenight.
The point was you didn't realise that the the OP had all electricity switch to cheap-rate and just had to bullsh*t - 'Tease out' indeed!0 -
please people, no need to get arguing amongst yourselves...my hot water, or rather, lack of it really ain't worth the hassle, honest.
The plumber simply replaced like-with-like.
Cost was not relevant..the Agency that handles my home, and others, does rather look after its tenants....or should I say, customers......last spring I had all double glazing replaced, as it had popped.....and discovered...and made them aware of, rotting floorboards which needed replacing...not from my viewpoint, but from the owners.
I re-decorated one bedroom....and was pleasantly surprised to later receive a cheque via the Agents to re-imburse me.....I did not ask for it...the change was noted on the bi-annual inspection....
I guess I am lucky, as things could be so different living in a city, eh?
I will investigate a longer immersion first..if it will fit without fouling anything...they are not expensive at all.....if that doesn't have much effect, then so be it.
But I thank you all for your time and input....No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......0
