Hi
I'm on a new laptop, and so have just installed spybot which I have on my other pc and have found to be great.
I've just done my first scan, and it has brought up the following items.....
Microsoft.windowsSecurityCenter.AntiVirusDisabl
Microsoft.windowsSecurityCenter.FirewallDisabl
Microsoft.windowsSecurityCenter_Disabled
Should these be deleted - or - are they important things that update my laptop??
Thanks in advance
MrsP

What other software is installed on the new pc? Do you have something like McAfee Security Center or a Symantec/Norton equivalent? These applications will disable monitoring by Windows Security Center and perform the monitoring for you. So, at the moment, this is not a problem.
The problems start after 30 or 90 days. These packages usually come ready installed on new PCs. However, they are only trial versions, which, after the trial period (30 or 90 days), no longer update virus definitions, unless you pay for the full package, with a 12 month subscription. You will only get nagging messages to update to "full package". A lot of people think they are still fully protected against viruses, and Windows Security Center does not warn you that your definitions are out of date.
So, the bottom line is, you are ok for now, but when the evaluation period ends, delete the package, install one of the free packages mentioned on other forum threads, and get Spybot to enable Windows Security Center monitoring.

I'm with BT, so using their virus software (norton) which didn't come with the pc.
Sorry I'm a bit confused, shall I get spybot to delete those entries then? I'm not sure what you mean by enabling
Thanks for the speedy response

If you are saying that you have purchased the full copy of Norton, then all is fine (apart from the many comments in other threads about Norton hogging resources and slowing down the PC). By "enabling" I mean get Spybot to fix the "problems" it has found. Don't think it matters either way at the moment, as long as your definitions are up to date.

Hi
Thanks for that. I haven't purchased a full copy, but bt internet provides the free protections with the tarif I am on - if you get what I mean??

You can right click on these items to mark them so that they will not be shown again on future scans if you are sure that you have the necessary protection in place. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

OOpsie, they have been deleted now LOL - I guess I could do updates on the norton LOL

scrap that, I just right clicked on the norton and there was an option to tick the alerts that I needed - so have just re-ticked what I deleted!
Thanks for all the advice - think I know what I'm doing now LOL
