Euro Cheque into British account?

I have just had a French Newbie do a BIN. He has completed check out and stated he will send a personal cheque.

So I can pre-empt any problems can you pay a euro cheque into a british account? Will I be charged to exchange it into Pounds.
Alternatively can I accept a euro cheque that has been made out in pounds IYKWIM?

paying a eurocheque drawn from a euro bank into a uk £ account will usually incur charges....also will take longer to clear, as it will have to be returned through the issuing countries clearing system, may take up to 4 weeks.

A cheque drawn on a foreign euro account will incur charges. Best bet is to speak to your bank or use a service like this

To save time and problems I only accept paypal as a form of payment for goods sold outisde of the UK

In my auction I just put

"Paypal only for goods won/sold outside the UK"

Most high street banks will charge between £7-£10 to clear a non sterling cheque into a sterling account. Howevre, as your auction was in sterling you can email the buyer and remind them that you expect the cheque to be drawn in sterling and negotiable in the UK. You may find they will want to back out due to costs, but you could try offerign paypal or a bank transfer instead. If they opt for a bank transfer you can ask them to ensure they pay all the fees their end but you can't get them to pay extra to you if they pay by paypal.
