Lost job - notify insurer?

Lost job last month due to redundancy, do I have to notify my home/contents insurer?

    There is no legal obligation to notify them (except at renewal) but you will need to check the policy wording to see if that has a clause about notifying them of changes in circumstances.

    Ignore the advice above, (TSx seems to be mixing up your issue with motor insurance).

    Unless your home insurance policy is a "special" one designed for your occupation, then there will be no need to disclose your redundancy as off the peg home insurance isn't concerned with your occupation.

    read the policy documents and do what it says you need to do, no more & no less

    Well the policy simply says to notify them about anything which might affect the policy.

    Pretty vague.

    If I use their online quote tool, the quote goes up by 10% if specifying unemployed (even though that means I'm home most of the time).
    You must tell Nationwide of any change in the information given to us which is relevant to the policy.

    So that looks like I have to tell them. If they up my premium for being at home all the time (and hence much less likely to suffer a break in ), then I think it will be time to look elsewhere for insurance.
