The average bloke in the street would be terrified of the idea of taking an insurance company to court and the costs he might have to face. The FOS gives that person the chance of redress when he feels he's been treated unfairly.

Dunno about that - most "sophisticates" wouldn't go to the expense of suing a solicitor unless certain of the outcome!I have failed once when I took a solicitor to court for an unpaid bill.0 -

No - they would use the Legal Ombudsman, which is also free.0
