It sounds like your trying to send email from a domain via your ISP that will only allow email sent from their domain
example
Tiff@yourdomain.com is your email address
your internet provider maybe BT or whoever will only allow email to be sent that uses one of their domains so bt will be tiff@btinternet.com/tiff@btopenworld.com/tiff@btyahoo.com
The ISP's put this in to stop people using their mail servers as relays a common thing that spamers do. with bt you can secure authenticate your a valid bt user by setting up the outgoing mail server authentication within the account setting in outlook and outlook express. if you authenticate it may allow you to send your email.
If you are using your ISP supplied email account then it is probable that you have entered your senders address or something in wrong so check you have things spelt correctly.
If your ISP doesnt allow the authentication then set your outgoing mail server to the same as your incomming mail server and give that a try, if that doesnt work try changeing the pop3/pop/mail bit of the mail server address to smtp. If your still ahving problems pm me the name of your isp and the domain your trying to send email from (the bit after the tiff@) in our email address and I will try to work it out for you.0 -
550 relay not permitted
Relaying is sending email from a network other than that on which the smtp server resides. Most ISPs block this to prevent spam. Some will allow you to send email via their server anyways if you provide a username and password. This is called smtp authentication.
You can check to see if your email provider supports authentication by
1. Start > Run > cmd
2. At the command prompt type
telnet smtp.yourservername.here 110
If successful, it should tell you you're connected.
3. Type the command
ehlo smtp.yourservername.here
4. It will return a list. If you see something in the list that says AUTHENTICATION it supports it.
You'll need to enter your username and password in your email client. In Outlook 2002 you can do this for the account by clicking on More Settings > Outgoing Server and check the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
Hope that helps.0 -
You are trying to send an email from an account other than that supplied by your ISP.
In Outlook have a look at your Tools / Accounts. Choose the account that you are trying to send from. In the "servers" tab change the OUTGOING MAIL to match your ISP eg, smtp.yourisp.com
Leave the Incoming as was.
Of course, if this was caused by switching ISP's your "old" supplier may have turned off the account by now.0
