Seeing as the parents can't be bothered to let you know what the kids want, yet they have the cheek to look "amused and disappointed" at the "crap" gifts which you have bought for their kids, I would make sure that I bought something either very noisy or very messy in revenge!

Seriously though, why not get them all new pyjamas and a dressing gown? They have some lovely sets at Matalan, Peacocks and Primarks, it's something that will get used, and if they get loads of toys anyway, it's not going to be a waste of your money."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0 -
5 year old girl:
How about Fifi and the Flowertots or Dora the Explorer... my 3 and 5 year old nieces absolutely adore both. You can get dvds, little toys, t shirts, PJs..
High School Musical ( again, addicted )
Anything Pixar
If you want something small, how about one of those magic flannels you can get in the Disney Store that expand in the bath. I still love them and I'm far too old to know better...!0 -
Does the little girl like dressing up? My DD loved her Disney costumes at that age and for the next couple of years, Asda and Tesco do outfits (can't go wrong with Rapunzel at the moment
). 0 -
I'd go with craft stuff , as a parent you can never have too many coloured pipecleaners, fluffy pompoms and glitter glue pens - it's a great wet weather activity when the kids are 'bored' and we're liable to get a lot of those days in January and February. There are so many fabs kits around aimed at both boys/girls and unisex.
I would be wary of too much branded stuff like peppa pig/dora/ben10 etc unless you know the parents are ok with it - I know mine are probably eventually going to want the branded stuff but I'd rather steer clear of it as long as possible, not to fond of the stereotypical pink dolly stuff for girls and tuff stuff for boys.0 -
I agree with stiltwalker.
what about crafting stuff for all 3?
Each with their own craft box?
My DS is 4 next month and loves cutting up my unread magazines, sticking the "pictures" on paper. He loves his playdough and making things with mummy, usually a mess.
but great for rainy days.0 -
check the grab it while u can board - i managed to get playdoh puppy set for 1.40 instead of 15 quid - a thomas board book that opens up into a track with train included for 4 quid - i would play safe with books - lots of story books for the 2 youngest at redhouse (care or grabit board with a free book thrown in) and the eldest the guiness book of recordsolympic challenge starting 7/1/07:j0

Have a look in Wilkinsons kids craft section, their stuff is really cheap. We just bought the make spoon dolls set and you can make 4 for under £4. They ahve things liek paint your own piggy bank which the 5 year old would probably like. x1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -

Books are always good, and the kids' sections in larger bookshops often have really helpful staff who will know exactly what's right for a child of that age (and interests if you know them). In fact I'm pondering getting absolutely everybody in my life books and chocolate for Christmas to minimise shopping stress!0
