Towel Rails

Hi,

I need some guidance with regards to towel radiators. I have seen them range in price from £30 to £250 so would like to understand what I should be looking for in a good quality heater. Should I go for stainless steel or chrome plated? Is there anything in particular I should be concerned about if I were to go for the £30 heater. What would you recommend in terms of a good quality, but reasonably priced towel radiator.

Thanks again for your help.

    Avoid KUDOX brand

Absolute junk that shows signs of rust on a treated sealed system, Less than 18 months old and no warranty

The Reina Luna in stainless are very good but are £200+

For our bathroom i used an Abacus Direct (http://www.abacusdirectltd.com/main/index.asp) towel rail which i purchased from here: http://www.homesupply.co.uk/abacus-towel-rails=663.html
10 year warranty on white/chrome, lifetime on stainless steel if you have that kinda money. I went for that one as it was the best output i could find for the size we wanted. Ours is white and curved so the towels don't make contact with our painted wall.

Went for a cheapo screwfix one initially..it was rusty on arrival and the fitting provided were completely unsuitable for a curved rail. You get what you pay for.

Thanks Andrew-b, the web site looks great and the chrome curved towel rails are definitely in the price range we are looking at, especially with a 10 yr guarantee.

Thanks also andyhop with the advice on the Kudox range.

Hope you don't mind me hijacking this thread OP but are the Abacus towel rails OK with the chemicals that will be in my CH system. Plumber is prepared to put a cheaper range than he normally uses in for me but said to make sure that this is OK.

Towel rails are designed to be on the system and any chemicals therein. People overdose their systems as well as underdose. Components need to be manufactured to accommodate such abuse. Why would Abacus be manufacturing selling product that, as far as they are concerned, is not fit for purpose?

Why is your plumber relying on you to seek the answer to something he should be advising you on?

Should you not be asking him whether putting in a cheaper range might actually result in your CH system being less protected than it was before which is the inference from your post?

Does he have shoulders the same shape as a Coke bottle?

    Cheers

Jeez, I only asked a question. Perhaps I didn't word it very well.

Plumber has given me a price for supplying and installing a duel electric/ch towel rail. He mentioned that I could always buy one myself but to make sure that chemicals were OK in the radiator as he has had customers who have had troubles with cheap radiators. I forgot to ask him which makes to avoid.

I am in no way saying that Abacus make radiators not fit for purpose. I'm not a plumber so thought I would perhaps get some helpful advice on here. Also have no reason to believe the plumber is trying to screw me if that's what you mean by your coke bottle comment.

Incidentally it's not that cheap...i'd class it more as a quality product at reasonable price :) The screwfix failed purchase now that was dirt cheap..but i didn't realise i was actually buying the dirt (rust!) in it when i ordered it!!

    Thank you:)

Ooops - sorry totally misunderstood - lets call it 50/50 then. :D Thought you meant he was asking you to decide whether or not to put cheaper chamicals in the system than he normally uses.

IMHO you should let him supply it. How much will you save by free issuing it to him to fit. If he supplies and fits then he has total responsibility including guarantee for it.
Also have no reason to believe the plumber is trying to screw me if that's what you mean by your coke bottle comment.
Oh no not what I meant at all. :rotfl::rotfl:. It seemed that he was trying to pass all responsibility on to you and therefore if his shoulders be the same shape as those of a coke bottle nothing will stick on to them. Never heard of sloping shoulders? No? Oh! Sorry - never mind.

    Cheers
