Eastern Europe anyone??
hi, just wondering if anyone has experienced travelling in Eastern Europe.
I was wanting to go this August (save money over June and July) and I would like to know which would be the cheaper option:
to get a Euro Rail Pass thing or
to buy bus/train/plane tickets separately.
Ideally, I want to travel to Prague, Croatia and Slovenia. Prague doesnt share borders with Croatia or Slovenia, so if i were to rail, it would mean crossing more borders which might make a difference....
Well, if anyone out there has any tips/advice about traveling in Eastern Europe (where to go, what to see, but most importantly regarding costs!) then please reply!

I looked at FRIDAY 10th Aug as a possible departure date for you.
London Luton to either Ljubljana(SLOVENIA), Split(CROATIA) or Zagreb(CROATIA) can be booked now with Wizzair (https://www.wizzair.com) for roughly £40 (total price) one way. If you go to Split then you could work your way back from there. If you want to end your trip in Croatia then the prices are similar for tickets home.
For a 'real' eastern Europe experience then I'd say you'd really have to consider travelling through Romania or Bulgaria (wizzair again for budget flights). Of the countries you're planning to visit Croatia is the most interesting IMO.0 -
EuRail passes are not available for anyone resident in Europe. The European Rail passes are just being shaken up at the moment so not sure what will be available by the summer. You might want to look at InterRail Zones D (Czech & Clovak Replublics, Croatia, Hungary, Poland and Bosnia) & H (Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Macedonia)
Alternatively there are Euro Domino Passes for specific countries.
Check out https://www.seat61.com for loads of information about rail travel in Europe.
I work for Ffestiniog Travel which is how I come to know this.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0 -
Thanks reduceditem for that. Ill definitely consider Romania and Bulgaria.
So, do you think overall buying independently is cheaper than the Euro Rail?0 -
and also to ruthiejane, great help.0
