My niece is 18, a single mum, at college 3 days a week and gets income support, housing/council tax benefit and Child Tax Credit.
She was wondering if she can get a small cleaning job for some extra cash? I have tried to find out if there is a certain amount you can earn a week before it affects your benefit but have been unable to find the info online.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks

I think the first £10 or £20 (not sure which) is disregarded then after that income is taken into considering pound for pound.
I can't remember if it is 10 or 20 for a single parent though, sorry0 -
It's £20 a week; anything above that would be taken off the IS pound for pound. Oh and she must declare it even if it's below the £20.
Sorry to repeat Brett, he beat me to it as I take too long to type lol0 -

Yep, I didn't know about the ten pound disregard so looked it up. Couples on benfits can earn the £10. http://www.welfarerights.net/benefits-guides/Jobseekers-Allowance
I'm my husband's carer and could earn upto £100 without losing it BUT because he's on income based ESA they would just take it off him instead. Though the good news is like a single parent I could earn the £20 without him losing his.0 -

I think for income support the hours have to be BELOW 16 hrs per week as well-but it sounds like she would only be looking for a small part time job anyway.
