Buy a cheap one and sling it every other year, their not worth washing, and wont go in a WM anyway.0

For several reasons (not just to mention the environmental ones!) I'd rather spend more on a quality duvet and not have to worry about replacing it each year.
I couldn't agree with this more, a great deal of emphasis seems to go on where you can get the cheapest item for numerous things, the cheapest isn't always the best way to go for several reasons; and in terms of money saving buying the cheapest to throw it out every other year and get another is not ideal either!0 -
It is...i can get a King Duvet for £10..........it cost more than that to dry clean, and if you Laurendette it (Its too big to go into my W/M)...........you then have to put it in the Dryer, which still costs more and you have to hang around for ages. If you buy a dear one you will still have to have it cleaned Yearly to remove bugs.0

I have a 13.5 tog duvet. I bought it about 9 years ago from Debenhams. Its made up of two segments you button together to make the full 13.5 (one is 9.5 tog the other is 4 tog).
I wash it fine in my washing machine. It takes up to 6.5kg and I've never had an issue with washing it. I do this once a year (or more if I feel I need to) and it doesn't bunch or rip or look too much for the maching. (If you can span out your hand when your washing is in the machine your good to go.)
I remeber this duvet costing me £20 and it was down from £30. I was not sure of any of the costs of duvets back then and probably could have gotten it cheaper elsewhere but I had no clue where to start.
I have not noticed I need to pay £10 for one month on my lekkie bill when I wash my duvet, I hope this will not be the case in future! I am also more then happy to handwash in my bath should I need to but have seen offers of "Duvet cleaning" at my local launderette and although I don't remember the costs I don't remember them standing out to me as high. £10 seems awfully high- being I am in London and we tend to see stupid prices on a daily basis here (can of diet coke? That'll be £1.20 then please...!?!) I wonder if you went elsewhere you could lower your costs.0
