Hi Kippers, we don't have dairy through ethical choice rather than intolerance but I had a couple of thoughts which might be helpful:

    What i have found is:
    • Diaryfree chocolate doesn't taste too good but makes great cake toppings and is nice in biscuits Moo-Free is by far the nicest, and Organica does a gorgeous "White Bar" like white chocolate.
    • Grandma's & grandads or people over 80 yrs always ask 'is she better now'?...they can't understand and still bring my dd chocolate "which she can eat when she feels a bit better":( Yeah we have had similar for three years now. Bless them, my grandparents try to buy in biscuits that are dairy free but have egg in them (which we also don't have) as they can't seem to grasp the concept of animal products. I'm afraid we just got used to smiling diplomatically and thanking them for the effort, frustrating as it can get.
    • Schools are as bad...if she can't eat diary then she will have to watch while everyone else tucks into cakes or treats that the teacher brings in. Xmas dinner at school this year (she normally takes a packed lunch but everyone has the special xmas dinner)...i've got that battle to face yet! Can you speak to the school cook? They have to accomodate intolerances and ours were great even though it is diet through choice. Our cook keeps portion of mash out for DD without butter for example and puts a couple of veggie sausages in if she can't have the main course. They usually always put out fruit for puds, I should think...? For particular occasions, like parties, I ask in advance for the menu then cook up our own versions of sausage roll, "cheese" sarnies, fairy cakes etc and send them in with DD.
