Back billing sorted - how long to pay it back?

My service provider (after a number of months) has agreed to apply the back billing rule of one year to my gas bill, so a £2600 bill for 5 odd years is now down to £600. Success :D

I am sure I have read somewhere that they have to give you up to 4 years interest free to pay this back, my problem being that a bill that was previously £45 a month has gone up to £67 pound (for both Gas & Electricity) plus paying back either £51 over one year or £26 pound over two. I am just not in a position to pay this amount back a month, I am the only bill payer (and person) in my house. Any suggestions??

Thanks

no its a comercial decision no one can rule, only the company. However they normaly allow how long it took to rectify to repay
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

If you only have 1 years bill to pay I would think it fair to repay this over 1 year. Any extra time is a bonus. If you have not paid for 5 years do you not have any money put aside to pay towards it? This would make your payments easier.

  • No I don't have any money put aside to pay towards it. I wouldn't have said I can't afford to pay it if I had. I have been paying a dual fuel bill and was unaware they were undercharging me.
