Income support & CTC

Someone spoke to child tax credits today and they were told by an agent @ CTC that if they were on "Income Support they wouldn't get CTC"
I heard this and thought "Rubbish" Told them to phone back and get a second opinion.
Please confirm..........
Child Tax Credits (not talking about Working Tax Credits) do not stop if you are on IS or JSA or ESA or any other benefit.

I was under the impression you could claim for CTC if you were claiming those benefits... quoted from the citizens advise site http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/your_money/benefits/benefits_for_families_and_children.htm
Benefits for children
The main benefits for children are Child Benefit and Child Tax Credit. Most people living in the UK can claim Child Benefit for their children (see under heading Child Benefit). If a child’s parents cannot look after a child, the person who does care for the child may be able to claim Guardian’s Allowance as well (see under Guardian’s Allowance).
Many parents can also claim Child Tax Credit for their children. You may be able to get this whether or not you are working, depending on your income and how many children you have (see under heading Child Tax Credit). If you have a child who is disabled, you may be able to get extra money included in your benefits, and you may be able to claim Disability Living Allowance in respect of your child (see under Disability Living Allowance).

I get income support and child tax credits. I care for my disabled son and have received both of these benefits for six and a half years.0

They might have been referring to if you get the child premiums in IS, most people now get IS just for the adults and CTC for the kids.
If you get the child/family premiums in IS you will lose these if you switch to CTC0 -

BUT you wont have CB taken off the I/S if you get ctc and i/s,most people should have been transfered to ctc + i/s by now,we were about 7 years ago0 -
Actually it made some people better off i.e. those with 2 or more kids0

As I remember it was always identical. IS had a child element which was exactly the same as the CTC child element plus the lower CHB rate, and a family element which was the same as the CTC family element plus the eldest child premium in CHB.0
