No to worry, it was an offer which was in the Express and Star. May be why most store assistants didn't here of it. Though as some don't buy these paper they may be missing out on this offer.
It appears that the voucher in the Express was in it sometime during this week, and the one in the Star was today 17 Nov.
Not to worry as there'll be others available.
Apparently there'll be another WHSmith offer in most of the broadsheets from the 23/11/12.0 -

Despite what Tesco say, you can use any voucher from family members to make up the required £12.50 as long as they have the same postal address.0 -

Put the first one through with some shopping and got the £5 off and received a voucher for £2 off any £20 spend. Put the next one through got the £5 off plus used the £2 off, so £50 of iTunes cost me £38! Result :TPay off all your debts by Christmas 2025 no. 15 £0/69490

Just got a £25 voucher for £20 in Boots. The offer runs until tomorrow. Went there specifically as there is a 12 advantage points per pound offer on at the moment and I knew that would build up some advantage card points. Found out when I went in the advantage card points offer is only on spends above £30. Thought never mind should still get £20's worth. But no! Only found out on my receipt that they don't give points on vouchers! Damnit! Wish I'd gone somewhere else for the chance of a better deal now.0
