Log Book in the wrong name - need some advice please
Hi,
Not posted before but need some advice - the log book for my new ( to me ) car has arrived in my daughters name - dealer has mistakenly thought the car was for her. I have the insurance in my name with her as a second driver. Usually my husband deals with all of this but he has passed away recently so I'm on a steep learning curve as far as cars are concerned. My query is do I need to send it back to DVLA to change the name to mine.
Would rather not ring the DVLA my last call for information about my previous family car took 2 days trying find out what I needed to do, only to find I either had to send all the documents via the post office to swansea, or make a forty mile round trip to the " local " office to sort out the tax for the car.
Thanks

A dealer did this to us once, put in my OH's name instead of mine. I sent it back to DVLA with a covering letter explaining and attached a copy of the insurance cert in my name. They sent me out a new V5 in my name, no prob.
If you just send the slip off and change the registered keeper to you it will add another owner to the car.

One of mine is in the wrong name because they spelt it wrong (and added an extra letter), but i don't think it matters too much.0

Nothing to worry about as long as you have stated who is the registered keeper to the insurance.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

As above should make sure that your insurers are aware that at present your daughter is the Registered Keeper (RK) as her name is on the V5C. However if the insurance shows you as the RK but you are going to get the V5C changed into your name fairly quickly I'd suggest not telling them that your daughter is currently the RK as there will be 2 admin charges: one to change it to your daughter's name and the second to change it back to your name.
You should also make your daughter aware that as the RK she is legally responsible for ensuring that the car is taxed, insured and (if required) has a current MOT certificate. The system allows the RK to be a different person to the owner of the car - my wife is the owner of her car but I am the RK.
When sending anything to the DVLA 1) keep a copy and 2) send it either recorded or special delivery. If you search you will find numerous posts about the DVLA and "lost" documents.0 -
Thanks for all the advice, really appreciate it.:)0

I recently had cause to contact DVLA as V5 had not been received for new (to me) car. My dealer gave them icorrect address. The lady could not have been more helpful. She made a note of my correct address and promised to send new V5 urgently.
I am waiting for it and a little stressed out as tax runs out at the end of the month."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

I had a similar problem, our car was registered disabled for the year so the car tax was paid for.
My husband died at the end of July and the tax was due for renewal at the end of August. I needed to pay the car tax but they would not let me renew at our local post office because it was registered as disabled and would need to be registered back to petrol. This caused me a few headaches and I ended up 20miles away at my " local office ". I would advise you to do the same if the log book doesn't come in time. They were very helpful and at least you are not ringing Swansea being passed from one person to another and racking up a huge phone bill, and getting very stressed
at the same time.
