I recieved my cheque book today but on the back of the cheques it says ' this cheque is not transferable and is for credit to the payee account only'
Does anyone know what this means as all other cheque books i've had have been blank on the bank..can i still use them like normal cheques

You can use it like a normal cheque.
It sounds like the part the banks usually put on the front of the cheque(crossed cheque) it basically means that it can only be put in the account of the person/organisation that you write it to.
This could possibly stop the use of cheque cashing bureau's?Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
Agreed, it just means that your cheque can only be paid to the person/organisation named on the fron of the cheque.
Actually a bit too much of an echo from post number two
They are normal cheques, and you can use them as such.
But interesting point regarding cheque cashing bureaus, but unless your writing yourself a cheque I wouldnt worry too much about it.0 -
These cheque cashing companies work in the same way as reputable firms like solicitors and accountants in that they have a "Client Account" which holds funds which do not belong to them, but to their clients. This allows cheques made payable to their "clients" to be paid into an account held in the company name.
I have wondered, though, how they can be sure of the probity of a cheque which would allow them to pay it instantly (albeit minus their substantial fee). Is their fee so high that it will cover the percentage of unpaid cheques, or do they have another method of checking? The early bird catches the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.0 -
