Problem with microsoft word

Wonder if anyone can offer me any advice? Whenever I open word 2003 flashing coloured dots appear in the top left hand corner. They won't delete and despite running detect and repair I am still left with this problem. I work from home and use word regularly so really need it fixed quickly. Anyone got any clues please?

  • delete normal.dot?

  • Delete or rename your normal.dot file. It is corrupt. Another one will be created automatically. It is in documents and setting under templates in XP.

Thanks for the advice guys, unfortunately the problem still persists. If I uninstall word then reinstall will I lose all my word documents?

  • No, you won't lose any documents.
  • Could you post a screenshoot (printscreen)?

  • Sounds like the default font is sparking text or something.

You could try pressing Ctrl+ A to select all followed by Format - Font - Text Effects - None.

If this works, your normal.dot needs to be amnded accordingly.

    If not, I'd reinstall Word.

Thanks so much for all the help folks. My 12 year old daughter eventually told me that she had changed the background to sparkle. Little b*#!?r! I've spent a whole day trying to sort this out when it was that simple. Kids- who would have them?
