Older style tails require the radiator spanner mentioned earlier up the thread.

    What's better?

    Loctite 55
    Fernox LS-X
    Fernox jointing compound

I've used the last two with ptfe tape mostly.
And you need the allen key, or you won't get the old tails out.

    all modern day trv`s are
bi directional as the name implies, they can be mounted horizontally or vertically, on the flow or the return,
unlike the old single direction ones that made a loud banging noise when incorectly fitted,
i personally fit them on the flow when situations allow,
have you got a local bss in your town you can buy locktite 55 ( a staple of uk pipefitters ) there and you will also be able to get a radiator spanner ( spud spanner ) from there also screwfix gear tends to be a bit mickey mouse allthough they are good on some things when i was teaching i used to get there big boxes of speedfit fitting 50 fittings in a box with a free speedfit t shirt for £ 40 what a bargain i still have one of the t shirts i refuse to throw it away, out of respect for john geusts products, good luck with your job bye karl..ps do not get rid of your mexico no matter what anyone tells you............

i love mexico boilers " britains favorite floor standing boiler " and for good reason

average life about a hundred years

your system is probably tank fed " does it fill back up again easily "
tank fed systems are notorious for air locks when refilling especially in bungalows ?
Is this guy for real ? 100 year old boiler ?

hi you have come to the right place as i am an ex plumbing teacher/manager with 25 years site experience

    is your heating system

    pressurised or open vent

in other words do you fill the heating from a 5 gallon black plastic tank in the loft or is it filled via a filling loop

eg, a combi boiler or a boiler (with a sealed system as part of the make up)

an expansion vessel, a filling loop, and a 3 bar pressure relief valve to outside either seperate from the boiler or inside the boiler itself

commonly referred to as a sealed system boiler ?

This guys has so many jobs I am loosing count.
Manager plumber gas engineer elecs and teacher ? Did I miss anything.
