Selling Expensive Item - Protecting myself?

Hi,
I am wanting to sell a pair of brand new genuine ugg boots on ebay. What if anything can I do to protect myself against time wasters/ fraudsters?
I have seen listings before that say don't bid if you have less than so many transactions, or email us first, what does this achieve though?
Any advice appreciated,
Thanks

It achieves nothing- only good seller requirements work.
Be careful selling UGGS though, it is a minefield - are yours the Australian Decker ones (is it Decker?) and can you prove it if questioned and need to defend a claim against fraud.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. As far as I understand it, Ebay is flooded with fakes, particularly Uggs.
I personally would not sell them unless you have proof of authenticity. If you do, then you need to set your seller preferences so that you only sell to the UK (if that is what you prefer).
And follow the postage guidelines.

Its pointless really. You can't stop the majority of people bidding unless they have less than zero feedback (unlikely these days) or a certain amount of unpaid strikes. You can cancel bids on an auction but I don't know the rules surrounding that.maisiescamp wrote: »Hi,

You might fall foul of Ebay's VeRo scheme if you are not careful. If you have the original receipt then make sure to scan it in and add it to the listing (upload the photo to 'Photobucket', the use '<img source="link to image location on Photobucket">' to add a photo for free).
If you do not have the receipt, then you may find your listing removed (happened to me with a YSL jacket).
If the item is likely to go for more than £40, make sure to send via Special Delivery. At least then, if it really doesn't arrive, you can claim the full cost.Never Knowingly Understood.

If you know that your boots are authentic UGG Australia then you don't really have anything to worry about. It is the bidders/buyers of your boots that will be panicking whether they are buying the real deal.
patman99 makes a good point that its is probably a good idea to upload an image of your original transaction so hopefully people can see they are from a reputable high street retailer or well known website.
Most people can tell if a pair of UGG boots are real or not by the heel, sole and inner label so it is a good idea to upload pictures of these parts of the boots to ebay too.
Good idea when you do sell them though to send by some sort of recorded delivery.0
