Can anybody recommend any good online or home learning course websites (like Open University, but without the expense)?

If you're looking for science/maths type stuff the MIT put a lot of their learning materials online :

also check out your local library for textbooks and often free courses (free ones often in IT)

if you are looking at OU courses and reeling because you have low income, most people can get a fee reduction (i think if you have less than £14,000per year coming in you can get a grant for up to £575 and a further £250 which does not have to be paid back)
