Track bike insurance on the road?

Hi,
I have bought a road bike that has been modified to ride on the track, so headlights and indicators removed, and expensive original bodywork replaced with cheaper fibreglass items. There is nothing performance related or anything that would affect performance.
Some insurance companies will not quote but I can get a quote whilst disclosing what i can with regards modifications, and only require 3rd party.
The bike already has an MOT and is taxed.
Would it be legal to ride this bike on the road, and would the insurance cover me in the event of an accident?
