AVG not that good with ME - will do a daily LARGE download (several Meg), think this is because they've ended support for 98/ME/Win2k. Better bet may be Avast (google for download sites).0

Thanks for the replys.
I appreciate that ME is pants however the computer is for my mates kids and he is a tad strapped at the moment.
I was considering Avast so thanks for that.
What about a firewall?0 -

I have Zone Alarm on my ME PC - still seems to work (although you probably won't get any future enhancements).
PCs tend to have the current (ish) Operating System when you buy them. If it's a bog-standard one, could slow down dramatically if you upgrade the O/S. Nowt wrong with ME, issue is more likely to be overall lack of horse-power for recent software (and changing the O/S won't help this...).0 -
my girlfriends parents use antivir on an old win me machine. They are not online much just to collect email. thats all but it does its job and for some reason despite no firewall it has no pop ups0

As ME is an old unsupported OS now, just get an old version of Zone Alarm fro here. I believe that it's only the latest 6.5 branch that is incompatible. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
