downstairs toilet?

I have a typical 3 bed semi, reverse L shaped lounge with the kitchen taking up the missing part of the lounge and the stairs on the outside wall.
Upstairs is bathroom/toilet and 3 bedrooms.
There is a garage attached to the side of the house but it was built after the house was finished and the door into the garage is the old side/back door from the kitchen.
Would it be possible to put a toilet downstairs and where?
I thought convert the kitchen cupboard but that would mean the door would be from the kitchen or put a door in from the garage and exit the kitchen into the garage then into the toilet.
The garage could become a non garage if necessary.
There is nothing above the garage. We don't need any more bedrooms we just want a toilet downstairs.
Is this doable or not?
We did think of moving but it is to much trouble and expense especially at our ages.

dont think its allowed to have a toilet door opening into a kitchen. we had a large understairs cupboard in hallway, we converted that into a small downstairs toilet, our hallway is seperate from the living room0

Where does your soil stack run - be easier if you have it pass nearby a handy corner downstairs somewhere - not in front of the TV mind you....0

Under the stairs? My mum has the same design of house and the space under her stairs is open (she has a desk tucked under there). My parents-in-law have a downstairs toilet in their understairs cupboard. Could you have a cupboard built and put the toilet inside that?0

There is no requirement any more to have 2 doors between a kitchen and toilet. I put one under the stairs in a 1930's semi. That opened out into the extended kitchen, but it felt more like a utility room at that end.
I had dug up the kitchen floor so the waste connection was easy.
How about a composting toilet outside?0 -
Dig a big hole in the garden and put one of these over it.

you need to conect into the 4" drainage system either the soilstack or the underground drainage
outside if you conect into the underground drainage outside you will need to fit a
inspection chamber....

i stand corrected,it was over 10 years since we had ours fit, regs must have changed, because we were having a lot of work done on house at the time, we had to have regs passed with council, they wouldnt allow toilet to open into kitchen(not that i would have wanted that), other regulations were sink, hot and cold water and either a window or extractor fan,There is no requirement any more to have 2 doors between a kitchen and toilet.
