Hi

I had a debt I was paying off with eon along with my bill p.m which was £63 and I missed a payment for one month due to financial difficulties. I'm currently out of work and have just had a DRO. I rang eon today and the collections person is saying they want me to pay £110 a month (which I can't afford) I said I'd pay 90 but that would be pushing it as well but the person won't accept that payment. Will citizens advice be any help? the collections person said they will tell me the same thing and I will incure more charges while delaying to set up an agreement. I can't ring citizens advice today as it's not open.

Also is Eon expensive for gas/electric? They say I use £80 I live in a 1 bedroom flat and have only had by central heating on once or twice since April, I always have my appliances off when not in use and don't have the t.v on until the evening. The only thing that is constantly on is my fish tank filter.

If you have a dro, they will be banging a pre-pay in very soon
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Whether they are expensive or not is not relevant, as you can't switch while you have debt on the account. All you can do is to make sure that you on the cheapest Eon tariff.
Unfortunately, if you miss payments when on a repayment plan, the deal is null and void and they can ask for immediate repayment of the total debt . Any new deal then offered is obviously going to be more onerous.
Can you sell something and pay off a lump sum?

    Hi em80,

I'm sorry the person was not helpful when you called.

Try us again and explain that you can’t afford the amount that you’re being asked to pay but you are prepared to pay £90.00.

You need to know how much you're paying off what you owe, and how much is for what you are using.

Also ask if there are any better tariffs you can go on to save you money.

Let me know how you get on.

    Amy:)

E.ON were a disgrace to me on the phone this week which has resulted in me switching provider. They tried to double my monthly payment for no good reason and would not listen to anything I said. The drone on the end of the phone was rude beyond belief. It also transpires I have been on their standard (ie very expensive) tariff for 9 years with no offer of anything cheaper.

The feeling that they have been fleecing me for so long is the most annoying element.

It just proves that loyalty counts for zero.

    E.ON - goodbye.

I question if 5% of companies behave in a manner to reward their longstanding customers.

    On the original posters points.
You should know how much you're using.
    Go and get your bill.
Read how much units cost you each. Read your meter. Read it again the next day.
Subtract the first from the second, and multiply to get the cost.
If you now think your usage is too high - you can start hunting for the appliance you've forgotten that's using lots.

No, you've fleeced yourself. No supplier is obliged to offer you the cheapest tariff. It's up to you to do your own research-with utility bills as much as with insurance, telecoms and everything else.

9 years time 4 bills equals a total of 36 bills all of which will have provided some indication of the tariff, so that sounds like its your fault you were on the standard tariff.

They have no obligation to advise you of cheaper tariff, just like your local shop/garage doesn't have to tell you you can buy it cheaper elsewhere.
