next directory returns £3.99 and service charges?

Can anyone enlighten me about the £3.99 returns charge?
I thought if you returned an order they did not charge delivery?

Also, I have a service charge - I take it this is from the balance on my account? Even though most was returned?
eg I order £200 of stuff - keep £100 return the rest - I only pay £100 as thats what I worked out I am keeping . I just don't understand this service charge.

Infact I have over the past few months added up what I kept - the delivery and the service charge but they still say I owe a bit more And I can't seem to figure it all out. Its doing my head in now.

  • Service charge is because you pay monthly, so they add the interest on, I think?

If you return via the courier (hermes) they charge.

You can take it back to a shop or one of those places (ie corner shops) that has the contract...errrr..can't think what it's called :E

    edit; collect+ ?

Service charge; This is the charge made for the use of our credit facility and is calculated on a daily basis on the remainder of the balance on an account, taking into consideration any payments that have been processed.
Items begin to accrue service charge on the day after the 8-day approval period ends, in accordance with the current rate.
  • Didn't Next get into some sort of bother with charging if the whole order is returned? I seem to recall something on the news.

They certainly didn't use to charge for returns via Hemes.
  • If you return ordered items via a Next Store then there are no charges.

Unfortunately the returns usually take a couple of days to go through to your account.

The best way to avoid charges is to ring when payment is due and ask how much is due to clear the account. It always differs from their very confusing statements (on or offline).

Charge isn't for the latest catalogue then?
