Thanks to megsykins & loopyloo. Both your posts were extremely helpful, it's good to see it from the other side You both sound very sensible - I'm not sure my son has reached that level of maturity yet!

After reading all the posts I think I definitely need to sit down and 'have a chat' with my son, as we pay for everything except his socialising I think a major rethink is long overdue. Wish me luck

He might think you are being really horrible and think your the meaniest parent in the world! Cos thats what I think sometimes about mine, but yeah I can see it makes sense in the long run, and you can always do reverse psycology and do the "you don't want to rely on me forever do you" speech etc.

I'm baffling now so I'll shoot off!
