Not sure if this is even the correct part of the forum to post this but,,,,,
In 2007 i split up with my ex, he gave me his star card with the points we had collected for the kids, (the one and only thing he ever gave me for them!) and i kept my card. I spoke to texaco at the time and explained that i had my card and my ex's - they said i couldnt redeem my ex's points and the only way was to send me out a brand new card and that i could the put BOTH lots of points onto the one card!
Brilliant - i now had around £40 / £50 quids worth of high st vouchers that i knew i could keep for a rainy day.
Well, my rainy day has turned into a monsoon, signed off with work related stress / breakdown / bullied at work /disabled daughter getting worse etc etc, no money for christmas, no idea where to turn but thought "aha" my texaco points - at least that will be one pressie out of the way!
Phoned up to claim only to be told that Texaco have cancelled it!!! Apparently it's time limited and you only have a certain amount of time to claim your points. Both of the original cards no longer exist and the one card that had both sets of points transfered onto it - now have absolutely NOTHING on it whatsoever!
I am so gutted and thought i would at least post here as a warning to others NOT to save your points for a rainy day

most loyalty cards are the same as that 12/24/36 months etc you should have read the small print0

Thought the Texaco Star point scheme ended several years ago, seem to remember getting a letter saying so.0

Texaco Star reward is alive and well, however as per their terms and conditions, the points expire if there is no activity on the account for 12 months.0

Oh well, was there some sort of change to the scheme then, I do remember getting letter from them.0

Even if you read and understood the small print, you can:
a) genuinely forget about the non-use in x/y/z time period clause
b) still reasonably expect that the company will warn you they are about to cancel your card
Our local Texaco station changed dealership back in December 2009. As we had no other Texaco station nearby, we had no further cause to use the card, albeit kept it as we possibly would find other Texaco stations to use if away from our home area. As it happens, we didn't. Anyhow, although we had a similar amount of points to redeem as original poster, we overlooked doing so.
On coming across the card last month, we attempted to log on to our account to redeem same, only to be met by a message saying there was a problem and could we contact customer services. We did and were then told account had been cancelled and that under no circumstances would they re-instate the card/points. Given that we had been loyal for the years we had a local station and earned the points as a result of our loyalty, we did feel Texaco should have at least contacted us before terminating the account. We pursued this matter with them further, and most recent response has been again to say they will not re-instate. At same time they pointed out our last use was December 2009, and that they cancelled our card in Sept 2011 - given that we had only happened to remember about our card on the 13th September, it was certainly a case of so near but yet so far for us. Perhaps if we had come across it a few weeks sooner, we would have been able to redeem with no problem.
So, as with original poster, let this be a lesson to others with Texaco Star Rewards. Use it or lose it! Their Customer Services don't seem to agree that for years of loyalty, warning in writing about potential closing of account was least we could have expected.butterfly )i(0
