Lloyds TSB joint account

I have a joint account with my ex husband which had an overdraft limit of £1000. He had a lloyds tsb loan (in his sole name) set up to have payments taken from this account. However as the account wasn't in credit the payments have been refused for several months. I was shocked to receive a demand for £6000 as the account was overdrawn by this amount. On investigation, I found they had taken a lump sum of £5000 to cover the amount outstanding on his loan. Is this allowed ? I don't think it's fair to make me liable for his debt....

I think you need to make an appointment to see someone in branch, how long have you been seperated, why wasn't the joint account closed or transferred when you seperated?
Unfortunately, you could be seen as jointly liable for the joint overdraft as technically, neither of you appear to have severed the link to this account, you wouldn't be liable for his loan, but if his loan has incurred charges on your joint account, I think you are liable for that but your branch should advise you and I'd be inclined to get down to the bank tomorrow.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450 -
I would contact Lloyds TSB and explain the situation. If the loan is in his name only then I would think that he alone is responsible for paying it. I'm no legal expert though. They shouldn't move money between accounts without the appropriate authority anyway. Are Lloyds TSB aware that you have split up?
It may depend on what the joint account has been used for over the time whilst you were together and since you split up though.Indecision is the key to flexibility0
