electricity supply smart metering
Hi
Ive just seen a program on tv regarding electricity supply smart meters which allow householders to track usage against time - to see when your usage increases and therefore to identify times when you are using lots of energy.
Ive searched tweb but not found much about this from the regular electricity companies. It seems that this is not a free meter (unlike water meters). Does anyone know where I can get more info on this - especially if this is a free service?
Regards
Mark

If you just search this forum - there've been several threads with a mention:-

I beieve you are talking about units that measure your consumption in kWh.
There have been several threads on this forum about these power monitoring advice.
The one they are probably talking about is the 'electrisave' see

This measures your total electricity consumption in the house.
It is expensive and to my mind nowhere as useful as the very cheap power measuring devices from Maplin or Lidl that tell you the consumption of individual appliances.
For instance if you want to know what the consumption of, say, your fridge freezer it is impossible with the electrisave. However the lidl meter will tell you exactly what it will cost for, say 24 hours.0 -

Don't think so - suspect the OP terminology is quite correct and relating to :-
