Do employers keep sick notes in employee's personal file or are they kept in their sickness records file. Will be soon asking employer for all the information held on me and need to know if they are under any obligation to send me sick notes that they may have in my file.

Two years ago my Husband issued his ex employer with a subject access request to get hold of all the info they held on him and when he received this from his employer it contained all of the sick lines my Husband had given in over the years so I would assume this to be normal procedure.
Maybe when you are issuing the SAR you would be best to mention that you want your sicklines to be included. The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Thanks for reply, but was any of the original sick note in the bundle he received from his employer, was it just the employer confirmation that confirmed when he was sick.0

I work in HR and we don't keep a copy of the original sick note on the employees file, but we do keep them (all on a bigger file, elsewhere). A good HR department will keep a copy of literally anything and everything connected with an employee as you don't know when you will need it. Thankfully this is all now kept electronically which saves on paper filing.0

is there a reason you do or don't want the sick note on file? This seems an odd question to me when you could have kept copies yourself?Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -

I would imagine it varies between employers. Ours are kept in the personnel file.

If you're asking for all information they have under you (presuemably a DPA request?) does it really matter how they organise their admin? Whats important is if they've kept copies of your sick notes &, if so, that they send them with all the other information0

True, but the problem with these type of requests is that it is very difficult to know whether they have sent all the information or not. If a company has a mind to hold something back or destroy the original rather than photocopy it for you it is very difficult to prove.
Presumably the OP is hoping to turn up something useful? In the real world this is only going to happen if the firm fail to realise the significance of the document or just get some office junior to copy the whole file.0 -

Photocopies of EVERY (there had been quite a few as he was out of work with a serious illness) sick line my Hubby had ever given to his employer was included in the bundle .
I wouldnt know if they had been kept in his personel file of else where but he recieved them all in his SAR bundle.
We didnt request these specifically , just asked for ALL info the company held on him and they were included.
Do you WANT your employer to provide yours and they wont or do you ask this question for another reason? The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Slightly off topic - but there are reasons why an employer can withhold information, so a SAR does not necessarily get you all the information held (notwithstanding, as someone else pointed out, that if you don't know something is on your file, how do you know they haven't sent it?). As suggested by others, there may be easier and less confrontational ways to secure information if that is all you want, and the reason you are asking for information may be more relevant to accurate advice than we know.0

At a meeting with employer re absences, they issue me a printout from their computer, which did not relate to times I was off work oir conditions I had on certificate this as well as other information regarding some of my state of shifts times. I was told that their generic system would only accept some information manually. I understand that they have changed now and was told it is not possible to retrieve any information from old system.0
