Sat Nav helpful for Flodida ?

Been to Florida three times (last time in July 06) and got on fine without sat nav, I have driven a lot in other US states though.
Managed to "get lost" just the once, on returning from St.Pete's to Kissimmee, probably added about 30 minutes onto our journey, but never felt really lost, we knew were we were on the map, it just wasn't quite where we wanted to be
Friends of ours had their first trip at same time as us, holidaying seperatly, they did hire sat nav at the airport and said they found it helpful, although they never left the Kissimmee/Orlando area.
Guess if your in any way nervious and can afford it, then will not do any harm, but if your okay with map reading here, you should be fine.0 -
Hi, I've been reading about the decision whether to hire a Sat Nav or use trusted paper method and I have to say I am really pleased I hired a modern Sat Nav. Just come back from Florida and boy was it useful (also surprisingly easy to use) !
These things can be quite affordable if you don't want to buy, I used these guys and they were very helpful (more importantly they were also the cheapest)

Drove around Miami and found it easy without sat nav, perhaps have a look at the roads around where you are going on https://www.multimap.com and see if they are reasonably ok.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

I would say you need sat nav.
The first time i went we used maps and we were fine, had a great holiday.
the 2nd time we went we took sat nav and we saved so much time you can put all the places you want to go that day in before you leave the hotel, also set your hotel as home, then if you see a sign and decide to go someware you have not planed you can just hit navigate home insted of messing with maps looking like a tourist.
we take sat nav all the time now and we see so much more, also if you are out and say want some food you can just go on the points of interest and tell it to say the nearist pizza hut and off you go.
Hope this help and have a good holiday.0 -

Add £5.70 postage to your order - You pay the return postage
so you need to add £11.70 p+p to the price, also if you dont post it back the day you land you pay £10 per day extra.0 -
We went to Florida in July 2006. We e mailed the car hire company a few weeks before we were due to travel to order sat nav in our car rental. (I think it cost about £70 for 2 weeks but not 100% sure). When we got to the car collection counter we were told that all of the portable sat navs were out so they gave us a free upgrade on the car to 1 with a built in sat nav. Ended up with a lovely roomy people carrier.
Think getting around is easy enough without it as everything is clearly signposted.
Hope this is useful.

Thank you Mr Sceptical

I posted mine back on the day I said I would (that's what decent people do) and I also don't need a Sat Nav to drive to work and back so being able to hire one once every couple of years is extremely useful for someone in my position.0 -
savy.lass wrote:Off to Florida for the first time in May. Thinking about hiring sat nav as we are staying in a villa in Haines City, 20 mins drive south of Disney. Do we need this or is it fairly easy to navigate the old fashioned way? Grateful for any information.
We stayed at Haines City the second week of our holiday in November. If you get tired of the usual chain food places try Mannys Chop House. Its really popular so you would need to call ahead half an hour before you go.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
Thanks to all who replied. Lots of good tips. Cheers!0
