Or it could be like the car I called up about once. Advertised as haveing only 40,000 miles for a 10 year old car. When I asked "so the mileage is only 40,000?" the seller replied. "Well, that's what it says, but the speedo stopped working 6 years ago."

    "ah...."

Autotraders search function allows you to put in a maximum mileage. If you selected under 50k miles, this would still show up in your results. Possible customer they might have missed otherwise.

I never go to see cars where the seller has tried this trick. I think is shows a lack of honesty.

But that's two typo's, one in the title, and one in the description. Trades descriptions?

You're right. Getting trading standards onto them immediately. Have them shut down and all their staff sacked.

Alternatively it could be a typo and not really worth getting bothered about?

    Loads do this on autotrader.

It gets cars ino searches they would otherwise miss.
  • If it was advertised in the paper/magazine as having 750 miles then there would be a whole tin of wprms opened with egarded to TS getting involved.

But as it is on the internet it is a very grey area, hence why so many garages advertise their cars on theire as havinbg 102 miles or 137 miles, when really they have done 102,000 or 137,000 miles.

It's just to get into peoples search results when they start to use the filters.

Same car on the trader's website but only 400 miles there.
How did it almost double its mileage between the two ads? :)

That's not going to work on the net, printed and advertised elsewhere but the op will get nowhere.

Anyway what's the issue, he has the advice and the trader has the attention he wanted. Everyone gets a result but no ciga...., sorry, no sale, ;)

Not really sure what the fuss is about. Everyone keeps talking about getting TS involved.

As the seller isnt doing it with any other car they have AND they are a reputable Subaru dealer, i dont think its anything other than an error on their part.
  • Common thing on autotrader as it prevents the mileage filter working correctly. 500 for 50,000 etc.

Might be a typo as it is a dealer but if that mileage is not what you want just ignore it.
