Two Policies

Can I have 2 car insurance policies in my name?
We have 2 cars, 1 premium is paid off from May, and we're getting a new car before we have sold the old one.
Can anyone help please?
Thanks

you can have as many as you want as long as they're not on the same car. Although it's easier to transfer the insurance to the new car and add the old one as a temporary car or you'll have to take out a new policy with 0 NCD0

So you think I should change the car details on the existing policy? We are using both cars until the old one is sold. Sorry for the extra questions - thanks0

Yep. I'm guessing you only have one lot of no claims discount? if so you can only use them on one policy so you'll have a policy with x years NCD and one with 0 NCD; but when you sell the car you'll have to cancel the policy with the NCD on it.
I've never had a problem putting a car on as a temporary car although all insurers are different. They only seem to let you do it for two weeks at a time and it's not 'that' expensive.0 -
Ah I understand now, thank you so much!
Best get haggling with Tesco...
thank you again0
