managed to only spend £62 in Ald! today which wasnt too bad for the 4 of us and I got a bottle of wine
I'm carrying on with menu planning and shopping off the list as it works out cheaper, making sure the fridge is full of fruit for us to snack on rather than choc..
Its pancake day on Tuesday so I'm going to do some for the kids when they get in from school so got loads of lemons and oranges, planning a soup so will do that tomorrow, it fills us up through the week and is good.
Managed to save a further £26.20 from sweeping over-budgetted DDs into the potsealed pot is getting fed too, all good so far

I've just transferred £325 into regular saver for Feb. Hope to add a bit more but my target of £5000 is looking impossible at the moment.
I'm feeling a bit disheartened with my target at the moment as I've had a lot of time off work with illness and recovering from surgery which means I will be doing no overtime in the whole of Feb. This is really annoying me as overtime gets paid a month behind so my wages at the end of March will be reduced and I will be feeling the pinch until the endo of April. I just feel like it's dragging on forever when I want to feel better and get on with my life and savings. I'm going to have to live very carefully to save anything at all
OK moan over
Well done with your totals everyone! Hopefully you will keep me motivated over the next few months"It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. It is in fact true. It's called living." Terry PratchettBought our house 2012Married 2015

Hi all :hello:
Just transferred £400 over into the savings account. Did alot of overtime last month0 -
Another £100 into the ISA. I'm on target but could have exceeded it the last two months. Since start of Jan I've got an early upgrade on my phone (£80) and taken out insurance for the new one, bought an expensive handbag, a wake-up light, spent a lot on train tickets, £100 on shoes.
Maybe I should look at it as a necessary evil - treats = satisfaction, total spending abstinence = potential blow-out from frustration!

Quick update from me. It's been a really bad month for spending money! Actually I've been really bad as me and OH went away last weekend for a Valentine's trip and although it was a great Living Social deal (less than half price) we spent a lot of time 'browsing' the shops and spent way too much in nice restaurants. To top it off, I got the travel bug and booked 2 trips, one in a couple of months and one for next year, plus car tax had to be paid (£165) and insurance is due in March.
On the plus side, the freezer and kitchen cupboards are full so we won't go hungry and it's a free council-tax month so it's not all bad. The mobile cashback cheque hasn't arrived yet (due any day) but I've got an item on Eb*y and the TopCashback account has about £40 in it so there's a bit more spare just not as much as I'd hoped...MFW Aug16/ £134,400 Sep16/ £132,900 Oct16/ £130,900 Nov16/ £129,731.15 Jan17/ £127,735.84 Feb17/ £125,701.24 Mar17/ £123,997.26 May17/ £122,493.31 Jun17/ £120,985.20

Hi All. Declaring at £153 for Feb. I will go in and do an update on the first page after posting. Mostly from Amzon sales (don't know what I will do when all my teaching books gone!) and money not needed for my mortage (offset). Hoping to double that next month.
Well done to everyone on their efforts this month and to slowly fading for keeping the board.0 -
Hello everyone.
Going to catch up on the earlier posts soon, getting a little behind. Having a bad month / year at the moment, don't know if I'm ever going to meet my target of 5K. It started by my other half having to re-interview for his job as the company he works for were reducing managers from 3 down to 1. He luckily got the job, but it now involoves travelling vast distances and being away at least 3 nights a week. The small pay rise he was given is nowhere near enough to cover the travel costs involved that he has to pay and we are actually worse off.
We now have a garage roof that needs completely replacing as the beams are soaking wet and there is a white mould growing in places. Its the same for the door frames and windows of the garage, they are rotten and about to fall out too.
It just never ends! I keep thinking I am doing really well not spending, then we find we are worse off when the end of the month finally comes. I have been looking into starting up a little home based business to increase my income, but lots of legalities to suss out first and if there is a lot of costs involved it will take longer to get off the ground than I had hoped. Got my payslip for next week. £285 in overtime. So excited for getting paid.
I've got a new stratagy. I'm going to take all my fuel and spending money out in cash on the day I get paid and it will have to do me. All the rest gets saved. Hopefully that will be the way this month. Need to have half my target ths month to stay on track. Then 750 every month should be okFrom England - Live in Edinburgh and work as a bus driver0 -

Evening all,
Not posted here in a while but now I have saved £300 in the first month, woohoo!
This is the first month I have actually saved anything in my life, and i wasn't really trying tbh.
I have been out for a few meals, days out etc just because I wanted to treat myself after a hard slog these past few years.
It's now onwards ad upwards, hopefully going to be saving at least £500 a month from now on.
I really want a nice healthy deposit for a house:T
