Buying a Ski chalet

We have chosen the resort (Belle Plagne), we even can ski (ish) but we are definitely struggling with the process....
There are four of us (two couples) looking to jointly buy a ski appartment in France. We will need a mortgage (French), a bank account (French), a good lawyer (English speaking), and just a bit of honest advice!
Anyone done a similar thing?
Many thanks,
Legalmind (sadly English rather than French...)

The estate agents in the resort should be able to refer you to a decent English-speaking French lawyer (Notaire) to assist with the purchase. Most people I speak to moving to France use Credit Agricole for their French bank account - they have a special service for British expats, charges are low, and they'll do all your basic banking pretty well from what I have heard.
There are a number of UK-based mortgage companies offering loans against overseas properties (try https://www.mortgagemaestro.co.uk). Bear in mind that if you take a Euro mortgage your monthly payments will vary according to exchange rate, wheras with a GBP mortgage your monthly outgoings will be fixed.
And if you need to send Euros for your deposit and/or completion, use a specialist currency broker to save you money and hassle, rather than using your bank.
Pls PM me if you would like more tips - I only deal in currency but 95% of people I speak to every day are buying abroad so might be able to help!!
