Hello a friend is going to Canada for 6 months soon she would like to know what will happen to her benefits she is in receipt of

child benefit
carers allowance
child tax credits
income support

There are quite complicated rules about this involving time limits etc etc.

I think income support will stop, child tax credits and Child benefit may be payable for 8 weeks and Carer's Allowance -I'm not sure. There are also other things to take into account eg. is it a holiday, because of a close relative's ill health?

Really your friend needs to telephone each benefit office and ask - I have no doubt there will be forms to complete!

Surely the person paying for their trip will be happy to fund them, so they will not need to claim benefits?

Then I doubt very much that she can claim CA whilst she's away!

They will cease to be paid, the person in question will have to stand on their own two feet.
