Ink Splodge Problem With Canon Printer

Options
Please can somebody help me with a problem with my Canon printer (the one that takes BCI-24 ink refills)? The problem is that I keep getting horrible black lines and splodges on every document I print out.

I have tried cleaning both the roller and the ink tanks, but the fault is still occuring. I don't know why my black ink tank is suddenly behaving like this, as one time I would get excellent quality printouts, apart from the banding that usually occurred when my ink refills were running low.

I have had my Canon printer now for about four years, so do you all think it is time to replace it? If so, should I get a laser printer?

Would you be happy with removing the cover?

Have removed the cover, so . . . what do I do next, apart from checking that both of the ink refills are well fixed in?

If the ink pads are full it could be the ink has nowhere to go, so follow this, though note the part which deals with things not to touch

" Now is a good time to take it outside and use dry canned air to blow out the paper dust in the back of the printer. Do -not-, repeat NOT use an air compressor! It is too much pressure, and air from a compressor or air tank is full of moisture and oil. And stay away, AWAY from the print head and the park pad and cleaning pump under it. Stay away from the paper path under the print head groove. If you don't, you can end up blowing ink sludge around the printer or blow air into the heads or inadvertently create a suction that pulls ink out the heads and blows it around the printer. "
