That's low. Is she claiming everything she's entitled to? No elderly person should be living in the cold and when the government offers to pay part of the bill then she should be claiming and using that money for it's purpose. She'll kill herself or at least make herself sicker than she would have otherwise been if she keeps the house too cold. You'll have to help her out. Warm front grants will help put in central heating. They'll help out with insulation. Everything...and it's all very cheap or free.

Thing is she does prefer it this temperature. She comes to our house and complains its too hot.

Funnily enough, shes just had a government grant to have central heating fitted. Like I said, before this she a single gas fire in living room, calor gas heater upstairs, no running hot water apart from electric shower (only an electrical immersion heater which she never used).

Only trouble is shes moaning about her current gas bill, so its gonna be a fight getting her to even turn the central heating on! At the moment, she says she isnt even going to turn it on until December.....

My Dads the same. Hes got central heating but never uses the timer. He just turns it on manually if hes cold but then moans its cold when he gets up in the mornings. Tried to explain the concept of timed heating etc but hes not interested....

I can understand this actually as I have my water timed for two hours in the morning (heats a whole tankful up) but the central heating I only put on as and when needed for an hour at a time I have cut my bills down quite a bit like this I am up at 6.00 in the morning and out by 7.45 to my DDs as I do the school run with my DGS's then I'm out again by 3.00 picking them up and often don't get back home till around 7.00 p.m. no point heating a house when I'm not in it.
at the moment I haven't had the heating on at all as its just not cold enough to warrent it .but then I do live in the south of England and where I live in Kent is quite a sheltered spot.
