Earning £31,000 - entitled to HB?

Hi all,

Firstly, please don't jump down my throat for asking :D

I work full time earning £27,080 per year and my partner is on long term incapacity benefit. I only earned £15,000 last year due to SMP and I recieved a promotion on my return to work.

We pay £375 per week for nursery. Upon checking the turn2 us calculator it seems that we would be eligble for £33.75 a week in housing benefit. Does this seem right to you on an income of £31,000 a year?

Thanks in advance xx

It's possible. Put in a claim. Your housing and living costs must be high to get an award and according the calculator they are.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

as op says put in the claim and worst that can happen is they turn you down, and stop thinking you have to apologise for asking a question, whether you earn £30k a year or NMW your entitled to ask.

My brother who works in HB says that entitledto.com is frequently wrong. But as others have said, if you don't ask you don't get and it may be right. Personally I think there is a snowflakes chance in hell but for 10 minutes filling out a form you might as well...

Apply....you never know until you try....the worst that can happen is that they will say ''no''....but you won't know til you try.

I think it's more likely that you could have claimed while you were on maternity leave but not now to be honest. As others have said though, it's worth a try. Good luck.

£375 on childcare when your husband is at home all day ... Pretty clear where you can cut your budget!

He is on incapacity benefit thus might not be able to take care of a child full time.

OP's partner is on incapacity benefit, which is for people who are unable to work for an extended period through disability. If he is unable to work he may also be unable to care for their child on his own all day. I'm sure they have considered the possibility but it might not be that simple.

OP- your local housing benefits office can calculate your entitlement.
