Travel insurance for cancellations - HELP

just a quick question. I have booked flights with easyjet to go to europe in 3 weeks time. we are going to have to cancel this due to funds at the moment. with petrol prices and fuel prices all going up we just cant afford it any more. we called up easyjet to see what we can do to be told there is nothing!? we just want the £200 back for the flights or at least some money. the unhelpful man on the other end of the phone advised us to try our travel insurance. i have a silver account with LLoyds TSB which covers travel insurance and it says in the poicy it will cover cancellations. thing is though that i think my excuse of not being able to afford to go now will not go down to well. i dont want to use an untrue excuse so can anyone help or has anyone experienced this before? i wouyld like at least some of the money back but am worried LLoyds will not accept this. any help would be appreciated. Thanks:)

I do so hope that this is a joke!0

No insurance covers you for cancellations due to changing your mind, only for those due to illness and the like
I'll refrain from the comments I'd like to make as to the (rant deleted)0 -
I'm very sorry Sunflower... if you booked non-refundable tickets (which it sounds like you did), that's the end of it. No refunds. And you're right, insurance is not designed to cover change of mind.
If you can't get a refund, will you still not go on holiday? Will you still be saving money? Is there anything else you can do to try and afford it?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Holidays are important. Since you have paid for your flights, you might just as well enjoy them. Maybe you could sell your spare car to reduce your petrol costs? Or just use a bicycle?0

thanks. no help at all. definitely not so wise
both of us have been told that we may be made redundant in the next month or so. these flights were booked several months ago. as we know times are hard at the moment. i was just asking a simple question to try and get some feedback as to whether or not anyone had experienced this before. thats all. the £200 would have come in useful twds an extra mortgage payment.
has anyone ever got money back from easyjet or is it just a lost cause?0 -
hello badger lady. we have not booked hotels yet or put spending money away so it would be cheaper just to lose the £200. I think it will be the last time i use sleazyjet to be honest. Last yr we booked flights with ryan air but at the last minute could not go away. we spoke to them and explained the situation and they offered to retain the money for 6 months and when we decided that we wanted to go away they would use this money for the future flight - which is what i thought sleazyject might have done.
ah well.....you live and learn...0 -

I genuinely thought that you were joking - I never dreamed that someone was asking a serious question about claiming on insurance for a change of mind!0 -

its a change of circumstances not mind. i would still love to go. 4 months ago we were in a good financial situation. now it seems - both local authority workers - that our jobs - which were both told were 'safe as houses' are no longer. just being realistic.
sorry didnt mean to rant. i am just so fed up with the way things are going. we work nbloody hard all yr and just wanted a few days in a nice european city for a break to be told that we may be outta work in january. with a child on the way and a flat bought last yr things are grim grim grim. the £200 would have come in useful. i have never claimed on insurance before and thought because had been paying in for yrs with my account that i could at least claim something back. people change their mind on a daily basis. i think airlines need to realise this esp in this day and age and should at least offer something back. they can resell the seats and therefore are not losing out. we weren't due to go unitil another 4 weeks so plenty of time to resell.

Now we know you're talking s**t
If it's so easy to resell the seats then put them on Ebay yourself and try and recoup some of your losses.0
