Hob replacement

İ am away from my home in the uk but my gas hob developed a leak and now the whole gas system has been cut off at the meter.
What i want to know is whether i can replace the hob without the supply being reconnected?--also when i eventually return how much does reconnection cost?

Did you mean at the meter or the main? My meter (like everyone's?) has a valve with a lever alloying the supply to be cut and restored, as necessary.0

Good question--the gas company were called to disconnect the service by the block management--the gas meter is old and i cant recall seeing a lever! i looked at it because i wanted to disconnect it myself when i left and saw no easy way(unlike the electricity)mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

This is similar to my set up:-

Pure guess but since it's a flat (?) cannot see how yours is isolated at the main without cutting the supply to the block. Must be turned off at the meter which means easily turned back on again (assuming you can locate the valve)
No doubt block managment can assist by clarifying the steps they took.0 -
thanks-i will employ a gas installer to replace the hob--any tips?--i replaced one in another flat a long time ago and it turned into a real fiasco as pipes needed re'working' due to the differing designs of the hobs!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

virtually every gas meter is like this one.
the lever controls the on/off valve.
usually all the engineer does is to turn off the valve.
sometimes the pipe is capped off. rarely.Get some gorm.0 -
i must have missed it under the clutter!--i am glad it is turned off now because i can rest easy!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

Tips? I would simply say get a few quotes. If it's a replacement (try to go like for like, if you are not that fussed) cant imagine it's not a simple quick in and out. As long as you opt for a 'competent' fitter shouldn't have any issues.0

the problem i have is i live abroad and getting quotes is a no go! i will need this done by the time i get home for practical reasons!-i am not fussy about the replacement.--it was a profilo hob --would a replacement profilo hob be simular in its feed despite many years having passed since this original was installed.--obviously the dimension would have to be simular!

gas hobs (above units) are connected like this. very simple bayonet fitting.
free standing cookers are the same.
gas hobs above ovens, should be connected with rigid pipework.Get some gorm.0 -
Yep--its a gas hob above and electric oven --hence the problem!
İ had a regular qualified corgi register plumber but i sense he ripped me off last summer --500 quid for the provision and installation of a cheap stainless steel sink--otherwise i would put it in his hands!--being so remote makes things like this so costly!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0
