No electric bill for 11 months. Where do i stand legally?
Hi everyone any help greatly appreciated with this problem.
I moved in to a new property 11 months ago and i have not yet received an electric bill.
I live in a property that does not use gas, so it is electric for everything, heating , cooking, etc
When i moved in i contacted EDF energy to tell them my meter readings, they said that they would send out some paperwork and we could get a direct debit up and running.
I heard nothing from them so i called back again and i have called numerous times throughout the last 11 months and each time they say that they will send paperwork etc but still not received a thing from them.
Does anyone know where i stand legally with this issue as i am fed up of chasing them to pay money that i owe them!!!
They have a record of the calls i have made to them so it seems very strange that they don't want any money.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

You say that you contacted EDF. But are you sure that they are the existing supplier? If not, you'd need to register with the existing supplier first, with whom you are in a deemed contract. Only then can you commence a switch. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Is it a new build ? Maybe bills still going to builders.
Anyway try finding out which company(if any) is registered as your supplier.
Have a look at this link

I believe in the voluntary code of conduct which EDF have signed up to if you have made reasonable attempt to contact them and pay your bill they cannot back bill you after 12 months,
I in the same situation with my gas I switched to them nine months ago I have called them e-mail and still nothing0 -
Whilst Aujme is right in theory I agree with Cardew, write don't just ring or any "code of conduct" could well prove worthless to you if you can't prove you tried so hard!0

In fact the Billing Code to which you refer is quite specific about moving into new houses and contacting the supplier.
It is quite possible on a new build that the company do not know they are supplying the house - or even that the house exists.
It is important to note that you are on a legally binding 'deemed contract' as soon as you use any electricity.
Just WRITE and put money aside to cover your bill.0 -

Just to clarify - the back billing rule applies to energy used over 12 months before the bill - so you'll still be liable for everything you used in that time.0 -
Thank you very much for all the responses, been at work all day so i have only just had time to log in again.
In reply to one or two questions above, it is a new build apartment which was previously a show apartment so a considerable amount of electricity had already been used. We obtained the meter readings when we moved in and informed EDF of these readings.
We have since given them an up to date reading but still we hear nothing from them.
The builders informed us that EDF were the suppliers but when we contacted them, they did not have any record of our property but they said that they would set up an account and send the appropriate paperwork, this has been repeated numerous times but to no avail.
It seems that the suggestion to send a letter is the way forward so i will see if that works!!
Once again, many thanks for the replies.0 -
you need to get someone to check ecoes with your msn, this will tell you for 100% your supplierDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
