Jam jar cover thingies for home made jam - where to buy?

Where can I buy those jam jar cover thingies you put on the top of jam jars before closing them? I want to make some marmalade but I think I will need these covers? Or can I just close the jars without?

Any help gratefully accepted!

    Hi
You don't need these as long as you have airtight lids, put them on whilst the marmalade is hot and they vacuum seal themselves anyway, you can hear the lids popping as the jars cool.

Lakeland sell them. Also if you have any local general purpose newsagent/post office type shop that sell stationary and all sorts of bits, they may well have them....mine did but 'under the counter' so I had to ask for them. Hope that helps

I would strongly recommend buying proper lids instead of using the wax paper and plastic tops. The jam will keep much better.

If you only need a few then Lakeland do them. However, if you are into serious jam making, or you need odd sizes, then Ascott Smallholdings is brilliant...but they come in quite large quantities.

This is a link to their jars page, the lids are at the bottom.

  • or you can cut out discs from the plasticky linings of empty cereal packets, then they won't cost a thing!:j

My friend told me to use greaseproof paper circles when I thought about making jam. Not tried it but she always used to do it.

My local co-op sells packs of about 25 per set. That's wax disks, a wrap over top, and an elastic band.
