Must admit I do like a nice minty shower gel... but maybe it's time to go back to the soap?

I use soap as there is much less packaging involved......0

I use shower gel as I prefer it. I actually find soap really hard to rinse off because of the water where I live. I also find I drop the soap a lot and my eye sight is so poor I cannot find it. It's much harder to lose a bit bottle of shower gel! I also find shower gel a bit more of a treat.
I think the article massively exaggerates how expensive shower gel is. Boots own brand shower gel is very cheap (and nice) and is often on offer and you don't need to use that much of it.0 -
Some of my bathroom habit are decidedly un OS - I currently have 4 different showers gels with differrent smells depending on what I fancy. In my defence they we're all bargains (Body Shop Glitch, Lush grab bag and birthday pressie).
I'm fairly sure the Daily Fail would be up in arms if 'the nanny state' or 'Europe' decided to ban shower gels due to the unnnecessary chemicals and wasteful packaging and would be at the fore front for defending consumer choice and our right to buy!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I do use shower gel, but I won't buy it any more as I think even a decent soap is better value for money than buying shower gel, particularly as I love a nice creamy lather and lovely fragrance for showering. However, I do seem to end up with quite a lot as presents throughout the year and I use that interspersed with my nice soap.
Body Shop Moringa fragrance soap is a current favourite and it lasts for absolutely ages. http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/_en/_gb/catalog/product.aspx?ParentCatCode=C_BathBody&CatCode=C_BathBody_BathShower&prdcode=48880m Costs next to nothing when bought on one of the Body Shop's offers or glitches , of which there are many!0 -
I've always found soap very drying as I have dry skin. My favourite shower gel used to be a Lime one, I can't remember the brand but I loved the smell and it made me smile every time! I realised it was quite expensive so now I use a white Tesco shower gel with a shower scrub thing. I also put the shower gel into a pump dispenser as a handwash (thanks to this forum for the tip!!!).
I understand soap might be better for some, but it's definitely not for me!0 -
I have tried the odd bar of soap in recent years but I find it very hard going on my skin, even if you lather up alot like when you were a kid it left my hands feeling stripped off oil sore and dry just after quick hand wash. Shower gels or liquid soap dont have the same effect at all. So I will be using mine! To be fair if you use a flannel you can use a tiny amount and still lather up all over in the shower so you are not pouring it down the drain.0

The cost and packaging argument is one thing, but shower gels being "difficult to use" really made me chortle. The whole point of them is they are soft and therefore lather up far quicker than soap. People travel far more these days and many go to the gym regularly; far more practical to have a bottle in your sponge bag than a slimey bar of soap.
And there's no need to ever pay more than a quid for a bottle; one brand or another is permanently on offer in Superdrug or Morrisons. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
I use soap but it's a hair and body bar from purenuffstuff so I can wash from top to bottom.
DD and OH use shower gel but I have really sensitive skin and I haven't been able to find a shower gel that doesn't make me go red or itch.

I always use shower gel as our, vile jelly said thers always one on offer for less than a pound
usually use r....x as it has a hook on it0 -
Soap for me and the kiddies. It's down to less chemicals in the soaps and less preservatives. That is what is important to me.
DH has always been a shower gel person but has relented recently in allowing me to purchase a bar for him.
Thanks for the purenuffstuff heads up by the way. He would really benefit from being able to wash his hair/balding head with the general washing bar.0
