Trouble with Amazon and Hermes UK couriers

I wonder if someone can help me. I'm currently having trouble having ordered a Playstation 3 from Amazon using Super Saver Delivery.

The couriers, Hermes UK, have failed to deliver the parcel to me. The trouble is it's listed on their tracking site as "delivered". Well, it hasn't been. Not to me anyway. I've since found out they have a lousy reputation.

Now the thing is I've been in contact with Amazon and after waiting the required 2 days to see if it shows up (it hasn't) I contacted them again and they quoted what I already knew already that the Hermes tracking states it has been delivered and if I needed any further help to get in contact again.

In other words, it's showing as delivered, ergo it has been, Q.E.D.

Now what I'd like to know is what is my best course of action? Do I wait till the end of the month to make a chargeback on my credit card assuming nothing shows up in the meantime? Or would it be better to claim under Section 75 since it's over £100? Does the use of one preclude the use of the other? Whats the time limit? Is this even in the right section? Help!

(N.B before anyone asks yes I've looked everywhere, I don't have any calling cards left, no-one knocked or rang my doorbell, I'm in all day, the neighbours know nothing about it and it isn't lying in any outbuilding etc because I've checked all of those things.)
Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.

So I'd get in contact with Amazon again and stress it hasn't been delivered to you. In my experience of Amazon in similar circumstances (though with a different delivery company and a less expensive product) they accepted that I hadn't received the original and re-sent it, only asking me to return the original to them if it turned up.

if you go through the amazon help section, chose contact us and select your order you should get a link to call them with a phone number.

Do that, saves the effort of someone in India not reading your email fully (which I have to say, of late, has got MUCH worse at Amazon).

  • Sent few parcels without problems, last month I have sent one to a buyer via Ebay.
The item was tested before sending it,the buyer claimed the box arrived damaged and the item doesn't work.
Which was true as I received it back.
Claimed on My Hermes website without success and called TRADING STANDARDS,which asked me to send them a letter explaining the 'breach of contract' to them and asked them for my £70 back.
To cut the story short DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY AS IT ALL HASSLE.

Minor point, but that would be Morley, not Marley :)

Surely because of the value of the item a signature would be needed? Can you not ask for proof?

And with Amazon, I thought it was 10 or 14 days before you could do anything about a missing parcel?

    Hello Blackjack Davy,
Very sorry to hear this. Could you email rosie@myhermes.co.uk explaining the situation and include as many details as you can (including your name and address)? We'll look into what has happened and try and sort this out.
    Thank you,

  • I'm in a similar situation. Showed on the tracking failed delivery Thursday afternoon (there are about 40 people at my workplace so I doubt they tried and no card anywhere). Then last night showed as delivered at 18.30 hrs - came into work this morning and had to ring the 2 people who were still here at that time - not been any delivery. Rang Amazon who for some reason could ring them today (they said no contact numbers on Thursday and Friday) - the delivery person got permission from their boss to sign for the parcel as being delivered! Amazon good enough are saying if it isn't delivered Monday morning they will send another first class and charge Hermes for the item (over £200) but why are Amazon continuing to use Hermes with so any complaints? I certainly won't be ordering anything from Amazon again if I can't be 100% certain they won't be using Hermes UK.

Sorry, but that makes no sense at all. Why would Hermes or Amazon actually admit to that? They are effectively admitting to fraud, it doesn't sound at all logical.

If you avoid using Amazon, in case they use Hermes, who will you buy from instead?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

They're not far from me. Maybe I could set up my own company dedicated to sorting out the mess they get themselves into. I reckon I'd be knocking on their door every hour.
