Buyer beware - just read the reviews. Almost universally described as flimsy, leaky, badly constructed & easily broken (even by those who give it higher scores).

The hydrostatic head (HH) is 1500, which is the bare minimum for our UK weather. (This is a measure of how waterproof it is btw.) Most decent tents from good manufacturers have a HH of 3,000 or higher. The design is poor, there are very few guying points, the sleeping area only gives you a width of about 60cm each and the pods certainly won't hold three single airbeds, or even a double + one, the living area is miniscule, there's no draft flaps on the doors so water will blow under onto the groundsheet....need I go on? And as a camper of 30+ years I can put up most tents better than most folk, but even I wouldn't waste my efforts on something like this. There are plenty of "Used once, don't like camping" quality tents on ebay atm for not much more money than this.

  • Valk_scot - can you suggest some please ? I am considering this tent but would like a better quality one for similar price - not adverse to ebay!

    cheers

Well said.. there's no way I could go away with a tent like this.. (I'm guessing the groundsheet is just a piece of tarpaulin or something..!!!)

Even Hi Gear (from Go Outdoors) would be better than this!!

(I am the proud owner of an Outwell Bear Lake 6 :j )

    Look for Outwell, Vango etc.

Even Hi Gear (which is Go Outdoors own make).

Check the go outdoors website for special offers that regularly come up.

For a good quality tent though, you'll be lucky to get away with £30..... Outwell tents keep a good price for a reason!!

Yes, as Kyresa says, look for the brand names. Vango, Outwell, Coleman and Khyam are premium brands, Gelert, Hi-Gear, Lichfield & Royal are still fine and there are other brands that have vanished from my brain this late at night. You can find excellent tent reviews here, steer clear of anything with damage especially mould and look for local ones you can pick up.

Oh, and the rule of thumb for choosing the size of leisure tent for your family is for a weekender you need... no of people in family + 2 = nominal berth size, for a longer stay tent .... no of people x2 = nominal berth size. In other words for a family of four look for a six berth with decent living space for a weekender, for a two week holiday look for an 8-berth with good living space plus perhaps a porch area.

I saw these tents when at Creamfields recently. Every time I saw one in a field it was leaking, falling down and looking in a sorry state, and this was before the first night and the first rain!
They have a very poor hydrostatic rating and wouldnt be good for anything other than a wendy house in the garden in good weather.

If you want an excellent tent for long (one week + holidays) or to go camping at the ends of the season DONT buy this.

If you want something that you can chuck in the car and set up quickly for a small family/couple of pair (TBH, it will sleep 4!!) when the weather is looking good for the weekend then for £30 is OK.

I agree. "Berth" sizes for tents are literally the number of people who can lie down in that space, on the floor. It basically assumes that people dont move and have no sense of personal space. This 6 berth would really be a 4
